Bishop-Elect Dr. Ronald K. Maddox

One Sunday morning Ronald K. Maddox was invited by a friend to visit a service at Evangel Fellowship, COGIC. During the course of the service the late Bishop Otis Lockett, Sr. initiated an altar call to anyone who needed a financial blessing. The Spirit of God began to stir and Dr. Ronald Maddox (dressed in a sky-blue suit worn the night before) made his way to the front of the sanctuary. It was that encounter with God that changed his life forever.
Dr. Ronald K. Maddox was born May 15, 1963 in Morristown, NJ to Wardell and Joyce Maddox. Dr. Ronald K. Maddox pursued his education at NC Agricultural and Technical State University, the United States Navy, and his Doctorate of Theology from Christian Leadership University, in Buffalo, NY where he holds several certifications and degrees including a Doctorate of. Dr. Ronald K. Maddox is currently employed with Lorillard, Inc. as a Supervisor with more than 35 years of service. In addition, his professional acumen and entrepreneurial spirit have led to other endeavors such as being President of AAA Speedy Movers, Inc. and NC Licensed Bail Bondsman. He is married to First Lady Vera Wyrtch Maddox and has one daughter, Charity Brooke Maddox.
Dr. Ronald K. Maddox matured as a Man of God at Evangel Fellowship, COGIC under the leadership of the late Apostle Otis Lockett and District Missionary Barbara Lockett. He has been known to testify “God saved me in my sky blue club suit and called me to purpose” as he’s ministered the Word of God. His servitude and commitment to excellence at Evangel Fellowship, COGIC afforded him the opportunity to discover and hone his gifts as a Teacher and Apostle which led to a commission to go out and “turn the world upside down.”
In March 1995, Dr. Ronald K. Maddox founded Fresh Start Ministries, Inc. The mission of Fresh Start Ministries is to establish an organization aimed at encouraging economic empowerment, expanding educational opportunities and to arm God’s people with the powerful principles within the Word of God. Over the past 15 years, Dr. Maddox has championed various causes and founded programs to encourage the disadvantaged male and minorities within the community by visiting the incarcerated, speaking at various causes of injustice and developing Fresh Start’s Men of Valor program. The purpose of Men of Valor is to strengthen the man for the Glory of God by addressing major topics which impact the male population and to provide spiritual solutions and antidotes. Together with his wife, First Lady Vera Wyrtch Maddox, they have worked to develop a sister empowerment program for women called WISETalk and other standard church programs.
Dr. Ronald K. Maddox and First Lady Vera Wyrtch Maddox serve as examples of what God can do through yielded vessels. Many who have experienced their ministry have testified to the Anointing of God on their lives and dedication to serving the Lord with a Spirit of Excellence.

In May 2024 Fresh Start Ministries – an affiliate of NCKCOC became the Headquarter Church for “The North Carolina Kingdom Council of Churches” (NCKCOC) where our vision is “Winning souls and making disciples by helping people to discover their purpose, develop their gift, and deploy their call in ministry.”
Bishop Ronald K. Maddox covers many churches under this fellowship. The North Carolina Kingdom Council of Churches (NCKCOC) which was founded in 2007 and he was consecrated as Bishop on May 5, 2024.
Bishop Ronald K. Maddox possesses a powerful anointing to develop, grow and lead leaders. He and his wife, Vera Wyrtch Maddox serve together as one to show what God can do through chosen yielded vessels.
First Lady Vera Maddox

If you ask First Lady Vera Maddox to use one word to describe herself, she would give you several, laugh and simply declare she is down to earth and “keeps it real for Jesus.” She would also say she is married to her best friend since the fourth grade Dr. Ronald K. Maddox and mother to their pride and Joy Charity Brooke.
She is the daughter of the late Pauline Esther and James Wyrtch and the youngest of three siblings. Born and raised in Greensboro all her life, her parents instilled strong family values and Christian faith. They were dedicated members of St. James Presbyterian Church where First Lady Vera Maddox was rooted and steeped in Christianity. First Lady Vera Maddox is well educated and graduated with honors, holds an Undergraduate Degree in Social Work from Bennett College and a Master’s Degree in Educational Counseling from one of the most prestigious HBCUs in the country, North Carolina A&T State University. She is an advocate of education and is currently employed by the Guilford County School system for more than 25 years.
As a young woman, First Lady Vera Maddox gave her life to the Lord on February 28th, 1990 at Evangel Fellowship under the leadership of the late Apostle Otis Lockett and District Missionary Barbara Lockett. “If God can save me, He can save anyone,” she has been known to share as she’s mentored others. Evangel Fellowship afforded her the opportunity to discover and nurture her gift of singing praises to God. She was a member of The Evangel Fellowship Choir under the leadership of Pastor Nancy Wilson, New Beginnings Ministry, and also a member of The Triad Mass Choir under the direction of Minister Jimmy Thomas.
First Lady Vera Maddox walks beside her husband helping him to push Fresh Start Ministries in any way possible. She works tirelessly in the ministry heading up the Women’s Department; the Missionary’s Department and is a member of the Praise and Worship Team. At the heart of her interests, mentoring and producing strong Women of God led her to launch W.I.S.ETALK in 2012. Instructor-led, this program focuses on healing hurting women and strengthening what remains in an open forum and info-sharing environment. Many women have been healed through the testimonies of others and the topics that have been taught.
As First Lady, Vera Maddox looks forward to continuing to champion those issues dearest to her heart – to lead by example, to help Christian women balance their lives and careers while serving God, continuing to equip saints with Godly tools to fight depression, and to preach the Word of God with no regrets through the unique personality God gave her and finally to leave a legacy for others to follow.
